Eddie Daniels

Since coming to prominence with the Thad Jones - Mel Lewis band in the 1960s, Eddie Daniels has achieved a unique place among clarinet players, in both the jazz and classical worlds. The eminent jazz critic Leonard Feather said of Eddie, "It is a rare event in jazz where one man can all but reinvent an instrument bringing it to a new stage of evolution." With a memorable series of recordings on the famous GRP label, including the Grammy Award winning "Memos from Paradise," Eddie revolutionized clarinet playing, combining jazz and classical influences in a unique and highly personal statement. No less an authority than Leonard Bernstein said that "Eddie Daniels combines elegance and virtuosity in a way that makes me remember Arthur Rubenstein."

Eddie's newest IPO release, Homecoming, is a two-CD set documenting Eddie's return to his hometown New York with a memorable appearance. at the Iridium Club with a quintet featuring DownBeat Poll winner Joe Locke.  Like Eddie's previous IPO release, Mean What You Say featuring Hank Jones,  Homecoming has received great reviews and made a number of "top ten" lists.

IPO is continuing to expand its catalog of both jazz and classical recordings.

Our latest jazz release, Homecoming, Eddie Daniels Live, recorded at New York's Iridium club, has received outstanding critical acclaim and made a number of "top ten" lists.  Also, Roger Kellaway's latest trio recording on IPO, Heroes, recently received the classic jazz album of the year award from the French Jazz Society.  Later this year, we will be releasing a live recording of Eddie and Roger performing as a duo at The Bakery in Los Angeles, some amazing performances by two of the most creative players around.

Later this year, we will also be releasing a live recording of Roger Kellaway's appearance at the Jazz Standard in New York, leading a group that includes Russell Malone, Stefon Harris and Jay Leonhardt and features an appearance by the great classical cellist Borislav Strulev.

Another important jazz release this year will be a recording of James Moody and Hank Jones, along with Todd Coolman and Adam Nussbaum.  With the exception of their participation in the two Music of Thad Jones recordings on IPO as part of the One More group, this is the first recording Moody and Hank have made together in over 50 years, and the pairing of these true giants of jazz is long overdue, and wonderful to hear.

One the classical side, we will be continuing to document the superb playing of pianist Dubravka Tomsic in diverse repertoire.  Her Liszt Recital on IPO received a great reception a few years back (including the grand prize given by the Liszt Society in Hungary), and we are following it up with new recordings of Chopin and Mozart.
